On the Sunday of Forgiveness, it was such a blessing to have a morning Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Monastery in the Church of Saint John the Baptist with His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyaneon. In his sermon, His Grace reminded us all of the importance of forgiving and asking for forgiveness before the start of Great Lent, as we are embarking on a journey of fasting, not only from certain foods such as meat, fish and dairy, but also from our passions, striving to remain in peace with everyone around us so that we can prepare ourselves for Christ’s resurrection. His Grace also pointed out that this is the most important meaning of Great Lent, and how fasting from certain foods also helps us in this spiritual journey, mentioning that the sick, the expectant and breastfeeding mothers as well as the young children are excluded from the material (food) fasting. At the completion of the service, His Grace enjoyed a morning tea with the congregation in the Hall on the final day of Cheese Fare week leading into the Easter Lenten period. Prior to leaving the Monastery, His Grace visited the Church of Saint Paisios, and was suitably impressed with the installation of the furniture and the Polielia (Chandeliers) from Greece. We look forward to his return!
